The money raised from the concert will help The Pituitary Foundation to continue providing its information and support services.
The pituitary is a hormone-producing gland located at the base of the brain which is known as the ‘master gland’. There are many conditions of the pituitary gland, with different symptoms and often life-long treatments, depending on a patient’s particular condition. It is estimated that there are up to 80,000 people with pituitary conditions in the UK.
Menai Owen-Jones, Fundraising Manager for The Pituitary Foundation, said: "We’re delighted that The Dursley Male Voice Choir and Madeline Crosbee are helping to raise awareness and money in support of our charity. We are a small charity providing unique services across the UK, such as HelpLines and local support groups, which are an important source of support for pituitary patients and their families. Because the symptoms of a pituitary disorder are often general, it can take years for a patient to be diagnosed in the first place. Once diagnosed, patients can face treatments such as surgery, radiotherapy and hormone replacement therapy. Having a pituitary condition can impact greatly on a patient and their family’s quality of life. One of the big challenges they face is that most people do not know what a pituitary condition is. Lack of knowledge of pituitary conditions, combined with other factors, can cause patients to be affected by emotional issues such as isolation, depression, anxiety and stress."
