Weekly Events
Tuesdays: Explorers Children's Club
Aimed at 5-11 year olds, we meet each Tuesday during term time for fun, games, stories, quizzes, craft, music etc.
The activities now start at 4pm and continue until 5.15pm, and are held in the Schoolroom at the rear of the Chapel in Itchington Road.
Tuesdays: Music Group
We meet on Tuesdays at the Chapel to learn and practise new hymns and worship songs, some of which are then used in our services.
All are warmly welcome (singers or musicians). We meet at 6pm until 7:15pm.
WASH Programme
As a reaction to natural disasters and poverty around the world, we, as a small fellowship, feel called to do something practical to help others less fortunate than ourselves.
In conjunction with Samaritan’s purse (the organization which manages the Christmas ‘Shoe Box’ appeal), we, with our friends at St. James’ church, Tytherington, are intending to support a programme known as “WaSH” (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) in Uganda.
The programme, run by A Rocha Uganda, is focused upon the village of Namungoona, near Kampala, and involves the supply, operation and maintenance of bio sand filtration systems, construction of spring wells and the training of villagers in their operation and maintenance.
SOME FACTS:
- 884 million people do not have access to safe water
- More than 4000 children die each day from waterborne diseases
- An estimated 2.2 million people die each year from waterborne diseases
- 2.6 billion people live without a safe toilet
- Uganda has a very high risk of bacterial diarrhoea, hepatitis a, typhoid and schistomiasis through contact with water
- On average people have to walk 4 miles to collect 20 litres of water
- The collection of water is a role for women and children
- The biggest killer of young children, killing more that HIV/AIDS, Malaria and measles combined every day.
Our involvement in this project will include Coffee Mornings, Table Top Sales and other activities, including quarterly progress updates from Namungoona. It is an extremely worthwhile activity which we invite all villagers in Tytherington and our neighbouring villages to support.
