Part-night Street Lighting Trial in Tytherington
7.30pm, Tytherington Village Hall

Councils across the country have initiated schemes to switch off some street lighting at night to reduce carbon emissions, save energy and costs and reduce light pollution.
Street lighting contributes approximately 20% of the carbon footprint of South Gloucestershire Council. Following a number of successful trials Towns, Parishes and major roads around the District have had their lights turned off for around 4.5 hours each night.
The result is not only substantial cost savings but perhaps surprisingly there have been consistent reductions in reported crime where lights have been turned off. Before a scheme is introduced in any area a full consultation is carried out with the local council, police, fire brigade and other partners. Only when there is agreement between
all organisations involved, will the area be considered to take part in the trial.
Once the trial has commenced in an area, a monitoring system will be put in place and if there are any issues, then the street lights can be simply switched back on.
Tytherington Parish Council has expressed an interest in signing-up to the scheme and has now met with officials from South Gloucestershire Council. A draft scheme is being refined and will be available for residents to consider during December and January.
Plans will be available for inspection in the Village Shop and the Village Hall and comment slips will be collected in the Shop. In addition Highways Officials from SGC will attend the Parish Council Meeting on 23 January to answer any questions you may have. Alternatively full details will be on the Parish Council Website where comments can also
be posted or sent via email to the Clerk Gill Brooks below.
