About Us

Available records suggest that Tytherington's WI was first formed on 1st September 1920.

Meetings were suspended on 8th February 1940 for the duration of World War II and then resumed on 20th April 1946. Meetings have been held every month since then.

Tytherington WI celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2010 with an evening get-together in the Village Hall.

Today WI members continue to support village activities such as the May Day Fayre and the Gymkhana, as well as enjoying two or three coach trips each year to various attractions.

Latest Meeting - September 2017

This was our first meeting after the summer break and it was good to see so many members in attendance. President Valerie Vizard welcomed everyone and then all stood and sang Jerusalem.

All members were reminded of the forthcoming Group Meeting on October 5 at the Armstrong Hall and twelve tickets were subsequently sold.

A vote was also taken on the NFWI Resolution and the results forwarded onwards.

Secretary Pam Shipp shared and discussed information in the group the AFWI Newsletters for both August and September.

Valerie Niblett confirmed the recent trip to St Fagans National History Museum had been very successful. Our thanks to Valerie for organising yet another great outing.

With business sorted, we then welcomed Dr Francis Burroughes who gave a very entertaining talk 'A Victorian Head Gardener'. He told us the story of his father who started his career in Horticulture as gardener's boy on a large estate prior to WW1. He fed our imagination with fascinating tales on mowing lawns with horse-drawn mowers, growing grapes and pineapples in glass houses and many other eccentricities demanded by aristocracy of the time. He was both informative and extremely entertaining.

Our monthly competition winners were 1st Bette Norman 2nd Janice Cornock.

There is a programme change for our next meeting on October 16. We are arranging a WHIST NIGHT, organised by Mr Reg King. This will be in Tytherington Village Hall at 7.30pm and visitors both male and female are very welcome.

TYTHERINGTON WI 95th BIRTHDAY PARTY

WI

On Monday, September 9 2015, we celebrated our 95th Birthday by holding a party in Tytherington Village Hall. Members past and present were invited, resulting in 44 guests enjoying a very tasty three course meal.

Just 5 years younger than the NFWI and in tandem with some neighbouring WIs we are proud of the longevity of our group and very keen to see it celebrate its centenary. However, our current membership is at a low ebb and we would like to invite new members from the locality to join us. We meet at 7.30pm on the third Monday of the month at Tytherington Village Hall. Come as a guest and try us out, we promise there will be a welcome on the mat.
